Just a reminder with the March Break, that there is no cadets this evening Wednesday 15th March 2017.
CADETS ARE TO HAVE THEIR HEALTH CARDS ON THEM.
Bus will be leaving the Armouries at 7:00AM on the 16th March. Cadets are encouraged to arrive between 6:30AM-6:45AM to ensure a smooth departure. Emergency contact for the trip will be Captain Justin Leadbeater 613-827-2320. Meals: Two of the meals provided to the cadets will involve the Squadron handing them $10 to purchase their own meal. If cadets wish to purchase a meal that costs any more, they will have to provide their own spending money. A note regarding the simulators at the Cosmodome: A minimal height of 1.28 m (4’ 2’’) and a maximal weight of 100 kg (220 lbs) are required in order to try out one training simulator. Participants must wear running shoes covering up the entire foot. Sandals are not allowed. Comfortable clothes are mandatory and skirts forbidden. Participants who won’t abide by these conditions won’t be allowed on simulators, unfortunately. Bedding/clothing: Bedding will be provided (pillows, sheets, blankets). Cadets are to bring their own towel for shower Thursday evening. Some towels will be provided in case forgotten. Cadets may bring their own pillows for the bus trip. The bus will remain with us the entire trip. Cadets are to dress for outdoor winter weather (winter jacket, sweater, gloves, toques, scarves, etc.) as a portion of the trip will be outdoors. Cadets are to wear their squadron provided blue shirt for the duration of the trip. Return Time: Parents/guardians are to check out our Facebook page for updates on our exact time of arrival. There is an event going on at the Armouries on Friday 17th March therefore parking/pick-up will be hectic. With the new date (Sunday 9th April 2017), we're looking for some additional volunteers, as not all from the original date are available for April 9th. Range experience is not required, as some roles can be taught the morning of the competition. Sponsors are welcome to participate as volunteers (Unless they have special range skills/knowledge, they will be taught how to score the targets), as well as adult staff (CV, CI, CIC, etc). Senior cadets are also welcome as volunteers.
Unfortunately, we did not get enough teams and support to enable timely scheduling and bookings, so therefore Exertion 2017 has been canceled for April 1, 2017 at Trenton High School. This decision was not made easily.
It is disappointing to make this decision at this time especially knowing the work by staff and practice some cadets have been putting into preparing for the competition. As EOA squadrons are in the process of dividing into the two new areas, the future of any Exertion competition will need to discussed by the COs. It is sad to see Exertion not run this year especially after 30 plus years of competitions. The CO's of Quinte Region are currently discussing the idea of a local competition. It would still be hosted in Trenton and more cadets would be able to participate to form composite teams to balance a round robin set-up. More info to come. There are some still tickets unsold by the Squadron. We are selling individual tickets for $5. Please come in this Wednesday to purchase. Otherwise the squadron will have to recoup the cost of unsold tickets.
